Leicester City’s Premier League preparations continued with simultaneous matches on Saturday. Brendan Rodgers took a stronger squad to Stoke City where they came out on top 2-1 whilst another side fought out a 2-2 draw to League One outfit Rotherham United.

Kelechi Iheanacho netted a brace in that game with new signing Justin James, Demari Gray and academy graduate Harvey Barnes all featuring. The 22-year-old posted on Twitter following his performance…

The striker hasn’t had too much of an opportunity in the East Midlands which has potentially affected his goal return – or lack of. Last season echoed that after he featured in 30 Premier League matches, 21 of which were substitute appearances, where he scored just once and laid on an assist on three occasions.

Iheanacho’s double against Rotherham has led to some of the Foxes fanbase to throw their support behind their number eight with many wanting him to succeed this season.

One fan claimed the 22-year-old would score ten or more goals this season and that everyone was waiting for it. Another supporter believed Iheanacho would become a Leicester legend soon enough.

Others replied saying he needed to keep his head down, stay grounded and work hard whilst one member of the King Power crowd asked the forward to prove any doubters wrong this season and show why Leicester signed him in the first place.

The Nigerian international cost Leicester £25m back in August 2017 as he made the switch from Manchester City which also made him the most expensive Nigerian player ever, surpassing Odion Ighalo’s £20m move to China.
