Dean Smith’s Aston Villa continued to impress in pre-season with yet another goal-laden victory, this time over Championship newcomers Charlton Athletic. Anwar El Ghazi opened the scoring before Andre Green and a brace from John McGinn secured a 4-1 win with just one game to go before the new Premier League season gets underway.

One of the goalscorers, Green, took to Twitter to share his delight at gaining more minutes as well as bagging a goal…

The 21-year-old endured a varied 2018/19 campaign, originally signing for Portsmouth on a season-long loan in the division below as he wasn’t able to break into the first-team under ex-boss Steve Bruce.

His game time at the South Coast club was all too infrequent and the winger was recalled in January having made just 12 appearances in all competitions, mainly coming on as a substitute. He ended the season with 22 appearances in the claret and blue but averaged just 46 minutes per game.

It’s clear to see that Green still has the support of a number of supporters at Villa Park with many quick to throw weight behind him on social media. One fan told the starlet to keep going and to not stop the hard work.

Whilst others offered up advice of their own, telling the winger to push himself to the absolute limit in preparation for any opportunities this season. One supporter wished him the best, claiming he would bag a few goals this year.
