“And there is the problem” – A lot of Newcastle fans are gutted that Matt Ritchie has injured his hamstring and is a huge doubt for the Premier League opener against Arsenal.
The Scottish international would have probably started against the Gunners – but he was withdrawn after just 11 minutes in the Toon’s 3-1 win over Hibernian.
The 29-year-old was replaced by Rolando Aarons – who provided an assist for Jamaal Lascelles.
Ritchie, though will be a big miss – he is one of Newcastle’s leaders on the pitch and last season he re-invented himself as left-wing-back.
The move was a success as in 18 games Ritchie scored once and provided six assists.
Newcastle will hope that the injury is not too bad – as they are light for cover in that position.
These Newcastle fans are now worried about the left-wing-back role.
See the best of the reaction below.
Steve Bruce clearly concerned over Matt Ritchie hamstring injury & winger will have scan. "The awful thing tonight is that one. We hope it's not serious, we're a bit shy in that area. How serious it is we do not know, but for him to come off with it, that's not a good sign".

And there’s the problem with #NUFC. One injury to Joelinton and we are worse off than ever

Who else is going to play left wing back? Lazaar? This is the problem – we are not resourced to cope with injuries to key players #ashleythat
