Many Everton fans took to Twitter to express their gratitude at Steve Bruce wanting to take two players, who do not appear to be in the plans of Marco Silva, off their hands.

James McCarthy looks certain to leave Goodison after he did not travel on international duty recently to ‘sort out his own future‘. After being an immediate success at Everton under Roberto Martinez, recurring hamstring injuries and one horrific leg break has left the Ireland international out of the plans of Silva.

Bolasie has experienced similar luck in terms of injuries, after rupturing his cruciate ligaments in 2016, the DR Congo winger has struggled to return to the player he was. This was summed up by his underwhelming loan spell for Aston Villa in the Championship, resulting in the loan being terminated six months early by mutual consent.

Both players are cases of ‘what could have been’ due to their injuries, but it is clear that both will not find first-team football at Everton and need to move on for the sake of their careers.
