Footballers are more than just a bunch of men who kick a ball around the pitch.

Nowadays they are some of the most influential role models in society, and fortunately, there are some who want to use their influence to improve the world.

The fire in the Amazon rainforest has been one of the most devastating pieces of environmental news in history. Animals habitats and vital sources of oxygen are being destroyed as the rainforest continues to burn.

This is a problem that is plaguing Brazil – a country famed for its football history. Luckily some players are raising awareness for the current situation in South America.

Perhaps the most famous sportsman on the planet wasn’t willing to sit idly by while not acknowledging what was happening in the Amazon.

Cristiano Ronaldo posted an image on Instagram stating how important it is for something to be done to combat the ongoing issue.

His Juventus teammate made a similar post comparing this fire to the Notre Dame fire from April.

West Ham star Javier Hernandez made a similar comparison using the amount that was spent on both incidents to show the discrepancy.
