Reports from The Daily Star state that West Ham United striker Javier Hernandez has asked to leave the club as his starting spot isn’t assured after the signing of Sebastien Haller.
If Hernandez leaves the London Stadium, then Manuel Pellegrini’s side is back to square one. They will be back to the exact same position they were in before they signed Haller as they will have one top-class striker with no depth.
Haller may well be better than Hernandez in this day and age, but the Mexican is still a great option to have up top as he netted seven times in 25 appearances last season.
There was so much talk of West Ham needing a striker before they signed Haller, and they weren’t shy of showing that they needed one as they chased numerous forwards before settling on the Frankfurt man. They were apparently after Diego Costa, Andrea Belotti and Maxi Gomez this summer.
They’ll be gutted that Hernandez has said he wants to leave as it once again leaves them back in the market for a forward as their only senior striker will now be a player who has never played a single minute in the Premier League.
