“The fact Pompey fans will be fuming about this makes me happy” – These Sunderland fans are very keen to play Portsmouth.
Sunderland against Portsmouth has been confirmed to be the fourth fixture of the League One season, and Sky Sports have selected it for broadcast and have, helpfully, moved it to a 12:30 kick off on a Saturday.
The Portsmouth fans, therefore, have a very early start to make the 340-mile trip to the North-East to take on their promotion rivals.
There was no love lost between both sets of supporters last year as they played each other five times over the course of the season and the rivalry grew with each game leading to several incidents.
One such incident involved a Sunderland fan threatening to bomb Fratton Park, and then one Portsmouth supporter kicked Sunderland right-back Luke O’Nein, in the playoff semi-final, so this season could see some tasty encounters.
These Sunderland fans are anticipating a fiery affair when Portsmouth visit the Stadium of Light.
???? Our home game against @Pompey will be shown live on @SkyFootball and will now kick-off at 12.30pm on Saturday 17 August.

In fairness, it’ll probably kick off in the town a couple of hours earlier.
