Sheyi Ojo was one of many positives for Steven Gerrard’s Rangers side last night as they obliterated St. Joseph’s of Gibraltar 4-0 in the away leg of the first qualifying round for the Europa League.

Ojo looked destructive coming in off the right of a front three and already seems to be forming a bond with club captain and marauding right-back James Tavernier. Ojo capped a fine display off with a cute goal and his debut performance has got Gerrard and the Rangers faithful gushing over the 22-year-old.

The former England U21 star wasted no time to open his goal-scoring account in a Rangers jersey but just as importantly looked to have gelled with his teammates and adapted to Gerrard’s 4-3-3 system perfectly. The winger was a constant threat and it was no coincidence that Gerrard singled him out for praise after the game, stating that ‘Sheyi has got all the attributes and if this doesn’t work it will be because of Sheyi. He has got everything in the locker – he is quick, he is strong, he is powerful, he takes on information’. If Ojo continues his pre-season and competitive debut form over the course of this season it would be no surprise to see him return to Liverpool and fight for a first-team place, in the same way Ryan Kent has done.

These Rangers fans aren’t thinking that far ahead and are just enjoying the youngster while they’ve got him.
