Journalist Andy Newport’s latest revelation has eased the fears of Rangers fans who thought they’d be losing one of their most exciting youngsters permanently after Ross McCrorie signed on loan for Portsmouth.
Yet it has now been confirmed that Rangers didn’t insert an obligation or an option to buy in the deal involving McCrorie and the English Championship side much to the delight of the Rangers faithful. The 21-year-old had struggled to nail down a regular place in Gerrard’s side so it makes sense to loan the midfielder to the English second tier to earn game time at a high level and continue his development.
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard confirms Alfredo Morelos missed today’s friendly win over Oxford with groin injury but says Colombian will be in squad to face St Joseph’s on Tuesday. Also confirms that there is no option to buy in Ross McCrorie’s Portsmouth loan move

McCrorie initially broke through under former Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha in the season before last deputising well in either the centre of the defence or the midfield but never really got a run of games under Gerrard after the former Liverpool captain brought in his own players last summer. With the signing of seven new faces already this window it looked like McCrorie would have a similar fight on his hands for first-team minutes so is probably wise to head to the South coast temporarily.
These Rangers fans are just glad that McCrorie will still be a Rangers player even if it means he has a spell away.
@chrisblue1982 thank god no option
