Tottenham Hotspur have identified Eintracht Frankfurt left wing-back Filip Kostic as a transfer target, as Antonio Conte looks to mould his own squad.

The Lowdown: Conte handed £150m war chest

Tottenham’s owners ENIC confirmed on Tuesday that the club would be receiving a £150m cash injection, which is intended to improve the on-field playing staff.

There have been suggestions that Conte would like to add at least six players to his squad next season, as he balances both Premier League and Champions League football in the next campaign.

The Latest: Kostic is Spurs’ first target

Darren Lewis of the Mirror reports that Conte wants to add two new wing-backs to his side, and both he and director of football Fabio Paratici have been impressed by the Serbia international’s consistent performances for Frankfurt this season, which has led to him being named the Europa League Player of the Tournament, having won the competition with the Bundesliga side this season.

The 29-year-old, who is valued at £18m by Transfermarkt has twelve months remaining on his contract and could be poached from Frankfurt for around £12m according to the report.

The Verdict: Give Conte what he wants

Former Eintracht manager Adi Hütter heaped praise on Kostic frequently when he was his manager and has previously dubbed him as “outstanding.”

“He’s been giving everything for the club for months now, showing outstanding qualities on the field and off it,” said Hütter.

Conte has already proven this season that he has got the potential to take Spurs forward, and Daniel Levy must keep him happy by providing him with the funds to sign whatever players he wants.

Spurs have had issues at wing-back for some time now, with none of their left wing-back’s setting the world alight, bar a brief run of form for Matt Doherty before an injury at Aston Villa ended his season.

In comparison to other full-backs in the top five European leagues, Kostić is in the top 1% for total shots, assists, and shot-creating actions, according to FBref.

According to the same website, in terms of defensive actions he has made more tackles than both Sergio Reguilón and Ryan Sessegnon this season, with the Serbian winning 29 tackles in comparison to Reguilón’s 28 and Sessegnon’s 14.

His pressing stats are also exceptional with an impressive 123 successful pressures from an attempted 400, which still ranks at a higher percentage than that of Reguilón and Sessegnon, despite the pair of them having attempted much less than Frankfurt wing-back.

This shows he is exactly the type of swashbuckling versatile wing-back that Conte desires to have in his teams, and at a paltry fee of £12m, Spurs should be securing his signature as quickly as they possibly can.
