Tottenham Hotspur are interested in a move for Nottingham Forest winger Brennan Johnson this summer.

That is according to Alasdair Gold of football.london, who was discussing Spurs’ potential transfer business in his latest YouTube video.

The 12-time Welsh international helped Forest reach the Premier League this season, having beat Huddersfield Town 1-0 in the Championship play-off final.

And Gold believes that whilst Spurs do hold an interest in the winger, he will likely stay at the City Ground for next season at least.

“Brennan Johnson, I have mentioned before as well, they really like him,” said Gold on his YouTube channel.

“Nottingham Forest lad, I’d imagine now with Forest going up that he would probably mad to move on right now.

“I think if I was him I’d probably keep going, see how you do in the Premier League with Forest.

“Really, really good young player.”

Our thoughts on Gold’s comments

We believe that whilst Johnson would be an impressive long-term signing for Spurs, Antonio Conte is better off sticking with what he has at his disposal currently, rather than spending an excessive amount of money on an unproven Premier League talent.

The Welshman’s former boss Michael Appleton has previously branded the Forest star as “exciting” in response to transfer speculation over his future.

The £13.5m-rated talent made 53 appearances for Forest last season, scoring 19 goals and providing nine assists for his teammates, according to Transfermarkt.

The majestic winger scored at an impressive rate of 0.37 goals per 90 minutes in the Championship according to FBref, suggesting that despite playing out on the flanks he knows how to find the back of the net.

The 21-year-old’s performances in the second-tier have earned him a SofaScore rating of 7.10 for the season just finished, suggesting that when given the opportunity he has performed to an excellent standard.

Whilst Johnson is clearly an exciting talent, we believe that Forest will want too much money for Spurs to justify signing the Welshman, as we believe that he wouldn’t make an instance impact in the first team, when Conte’s squad already possesses talent such as Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski.
