Tottenham Hotspur could revisit the transfer of Inter Milan and Italy centre-back Alessandro Bastoni next summer.

That is according to Alex Crook who was speaking on talkSPORT about Spurs’ potential business this transfer window.

The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on multiple occasions over the last few weeks, but the talk was quelled after the Italy international’s agent stated that he would remain at the San Siro for next season last week.

But Crook suggested that Spurs may revisit the transfer next summer

“I think he’ll stay at Inter Milan [This summer],” said Crook on talkSPORT.

“I think that could well be one that Tottenham will revisit next summer.

“I think they do want a central defender, though, because part of the attraction of signing Djed Spence is that he will play as a wing-back.

“We know that’s the system that Antonio Conte prefers.”

Our thoughts on Crook’s comments…

We believe that Bastoni would be a fantastic addition to any side in the Premier League, and it would be sensible for Antonio Conte to try and pursue this deal over the next 12 months.

The defensive titan already has a big reputation within football and has been referred to as a “Rolls-Royce” of a defender by Top Bins Talk.

The £54m-rated beast made 44 appearances for the Italian giants last season, scoring one goal and providing three assists for his teammates, according to Transfermarkt.

The 6 foot 3 monster would suit Conte’s back-three system to a tee, with the defender ranking in the top 1% of defenders across Europe’s top five leagues for progressive passes received according to FBref, suggesting that he would be comfortable from playing out from the back and starting attacks, something which Conte loves in his teams.

The 14-time Italy international has also been extremely impressive defensively in Serie A this season, making a combined 88 tackles and interceptions, and 40 blocks across the season just gone, according to the same stats provider.

The former Serie A title winner has earned himself a SofaScore rating of 7.10 for his performances in the league this season, suggesting he has been a consistently excellent performer for Inter this season.

We believe that Conte and Fabio Paratici should be going all out to sign Bastoni, due to the fact he is built perfectly for Conte’s set-up at Spurs, as well as being an upgrade on their current defensive options at the moment.
