Despite Aston Villa and manager Dean Smith currently being faced with a task of re-establishing the West Midlands side in the top-flight of English football, the 1980s marked the most historic and successful moment in the club’s illustrious history.
In 1982, Villa won the European Cup courtesy of a strike from Peter Withe to secure a 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich. It is the only occasion that Villans have won Europe’s premier club competition, but it certainly stands out as the pinnacle of the club’s trophy-laden history.
A video reliving Withe’s strike against Bayern has been going viral amongst Villa fans this week, and it’s safe to say it brings back some sensational memories for all associated with the club.
Check out some of the best reactions to Withe’s winning goal in the European Cup final below.
