Dani Alves became the first-ever footballer to win 40 trophies last night after his Brazil side clinched the Copa America with a 3-1 victory over Peru – sealing the nation’s first Copa title since 2007. His performances this off-season for his national team has sparked the interest of some Liverpool supporters who would love to see the veteran wing-back at the club.

Alves who captained Brazil during the competition also received the Best Player of the Tournament award despite many worthy contenders. The former Barcelona stalwart is currently without a club following his release from Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain after a two-year spell in France’s capital city.

The 36-year-old won five trophies with Sevilla including two UEFA Cups before earning his move to the La Liga giants. In just eight years, Alves picked up 23 trophies at the Nou Camp before switching to Juventus and then more recently PSG – given the latter two sides’ domestic dominance over recent years, more winners’ medals were always likely to happen.

Many see Alves as the perfect mentor to Trent Alexander-Arnold next season and in his own right, the Brazilian superstar could push the 20-year-old for a starting place – might we see Alves in the Premier League at long last?
