Unfortunately for Leeds, their number one seems bereft of any self-belief at the moment.
He’s not said it himself, but towards the back end of last season, you could see that Kiko Casilla was doubting his every movement.
On the final day he had two moments of madness – he could have been sent off early on, and miscommunication between the Spaniard and Luke Ayling allowed the Tractor Boys to find the net.
His worst moments were yet to come. In the most important game of the season against Derby in the playoff semi-final second leg Casilla had an absolute nightmare, and fans understandably bashed him after the game.
The keeper seemed to question his every move in that Derby game, he often rushed out when he didn’t need to.
To make matters worse, when he did choose to come off his line he often failed to commit himself fully, which allowed Jack Marriott to net the equaliser.
He’s had a full summer to dwell on his mistakes, and you can imagine that he isn’t feeling too great about himself at the moment.
However, he may about to be handed a sign of faith from the manager that could see his confidence skyrocket.
Rumours have been rampant that Leeds are about to sell Bailey Peacock-Farrell to Burnley, and that may just help settle Casilla’s nerves.
Of course, there have been numerous debates as to who should be the Whites’ number one this season, and after his terrible end to the previous campaign, you could understand if the 33-year-old thought his own position was under threat.
Selling Peacock-Farrell sends a direct message to the Spaniard, and it shows that the manager has faith in his abilities.
Hopefully for Leeds, this allows the former Real Madrid man to have faith in his own talent as at the end of last season you could see that one thing holding him back was his confidence.
