One of Liverpool’s centre-backs could be about to depart the club with AC Milan hovering over Dejan Lovren – according to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira. The rumour has left many supporters at Anfield hoping the Croatian leaves the club this summer.

Lovren has slipped down the pecking order at Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp’s preferred partnership of Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip became his regular choice at the back. Klopp has also signed young star Sepp van den Berg from PEC Zwolle over the summer transfer window and at only 17 years of age, it is thought he will be amongst the first-team setup.

Last season, the Croatian international only made 18 appearances in all competitions even despite the injury to England centre-back Joe Gomez. Milan’s interest may come as a shock after the club was booted out of next year’s Europa League over their breach of Financial Fair Play regulations.

The 29-year-old originally joined The Reds from Southampton back in 2013 for a fee around £20m and has gone on to make 170 appearances for the club. Lovren also played a key role in Croatia’s run to last summer’s World Cup final against France.
