Earlier this summer David Ornstein reported that Arsenal have been trying to sell Shkodran Mustafi nearly every transfer window since they bought him. The German international cost the club in excess of £35m in a move from Spanish side Valencia that has gone catastrophically for the player. Fresh reports that the club is looking to sell Mustafi have been met with the same outcome, that no one wants to even entertain the idea of signing the player. This does not surprise many Arsenal fans who have seen Mustafi struggle to get to grips with the Premier League since joining the club.
The exit of the German this summer was meant to raise some much-needed funds to reinforce the defensive personnel at the Emirates, but the recent developments regarding club captain Laurent Koscielny have left the club in a sticky situation. If Koscielny gets his wish and returns to France, it will leave Arsenal with five senior centre backs. However, Rob Holding is injured, Mavropanos is inexperienced at the top level, and Calum Chambers is reportedly part of a player-plus-cash deal for Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha. The Gunners have been linked with French youngster William Saliba, but he would be loaned back to St Etienne for a season as part of the deal, that is if Spurs do not highjack the agreement as reported.
Here is the reaction to the news of no suitors for Mustafi:
#AFC have been trying to sell Mustafi but there has been little interest shown in the German so far in this window and it looks increasingly likely that he will remain part of Emery’s side [via @SamJDean]

Say a lot about our scouts that we find someone no one else would touch with a barge pole

Great. So we can’t give him away. So the end result is he has to be in our starting line up

Should never have bought him in the first place he’s abysmal no wonder why no one wants him.

Mustafi has been here for 3 years now,he lacks the mobility or the awareness to be a centre back.I’d rather like to see Chambers,Beilik or even Mavropanos play than to Mustafi.
Last point he also lacks accountability, whenever he makes a mistake he blames everyone else pic.twitter.com/l75PiFv0d8— abdi (@abdi42909658) July 11, 2019
Not surprised. Who’s want someone associated with a banter club?
Plus he’s constantly slated by our fans even if he puts in uncommon decent performances.
So that hasn’t helped his rep and neither have his absurd wages.— Kermit Arsene (@NotSpendFC) July 11, 2019
I mean, we kinda knew this already. Who in their right mind would want Mustafi in their starting XI? who would pay for his ages even IF he took a pay cut? he’s here to stay until his contract runs out. That’s the sad reality, no matter how much people don’t want to accept it.
