It was reported on Sky Sports that Arsenal can go up to £70m in bids for Wilfried Zaha, which defies previous reports that the club have a tight transfer budget and will have to sell players before big money purchases can be made. Kaveh Solhekol (via Sky Sport) claims that the club will happily go up to £70m for the Ivorian winger. This report has infuriated many Arsenal fans as they believe the defence is in dire need of attention instead of spending big money on another attacker.
Arsenal were defensively woeful last season, conceding 51 goals and only keeping eight clean sheets in the league last season. The Gunners have reportedly bid for multiple defenders this season such as Kieran Tierney and William Saliba, but the only official signing announced by the club so far has been Brazilian winger Gabriel Martinelli.
Here is some of the reaction to the reports:
“Arsenal can go up to £70m to buy Wilfried Zaha, £70m is the point in which they would walk away. Obviously that is not going to be £70m in cash straight down, but a deal that would be worth £70m in total.”

I like zaha but I’d rather get a CB LB midfielder and a cheaper winger

Id rather that £70M get invested in the defence tbh.

I will be a bit upset if we spend a whooping £70m on Zaha, far more pressing areas we need sorting out, I’d be happier if we threw ourselves in players like De Ligt, we need defenders!!!!

Surely we need to build from the back same issues not being addressed

Why aren’t we paying that much for a defender or even two defenders.

We desperately need to buy first defenders and then think about attack. Our defense have to be the main focus point to fix first.

If we have even near this amount of money, why are we not sorting out our entire defense first. There won’t be a need for Zaha if we sort out the back, we scored plenty of goals and even left some on the table last season
