Rangers have recently been linked with a move for Senegalese hitman Moussa Konate. However, there is to be no bid for Rangers for the striker, according to the Evening Times.
What’s the story?
L’Equipe originally reported that Rangers had been waiting on an answer from the Senegalese hitman and had offered just short of €10million for his services. Steven Gerrard distanced himself from the rumours recently. This isn’t the first time Konate has been linked with a move to the UK this summer. Burnley and West Ham, but this season he’s fallen down the pecking order and has only managed 21 minutes of game time.
No Bid: does this mean Alfredo Morelos is staying at Rangers?
With L’Equipe also mentioning that any bid for Konate would be dependant on Morelos leaving, it would appear that Rangers are confident of keeping the man who has nine goals this season. Furthermore, It would be vital for Rangers to keep him given he hit 30 goals, and as a contrast, Konate. It would be a downgrade, especially as Morelos is three years younger than Konate and already knows the expectations of being a Rangers player. Konate may have been a good player for Rangers, but with Gerrard, it’s one that will be put in the ‘we’ll never know’ category. Although, this news may come as a blessing in disguise for Gerrard as he is looking to keep his best players. And if he manages to do that, any proposed move for Konate would become redundant, as there would be no reason to go and find a replacement for last season’s player of the year Alfredo Morelos.
