Mikey Johnston continued his fine pre-season form into the Champions League qualifiers by scoring a stunning long-range goal in last night’s 3-1 win for his Celtic side over FK Sarajevo in Bosnia.

Johnston’s strike levelled the game being played in terrible conditions after Neil Lennon’s side conceded a sloppy opener from a corner but goals from Odsonne Edouard and Scott Sinclair has given his side the advantage going into the second leg next week. But it was the goal and performance of the youngster Johnston that really caught the imagination of the fans as they took a healthy lead back to Parkhead.

The 20-year-old did well for Celtic in a peculiar formation last night that looked often like a 3-5-1-1 and occasionally Lennon’s preferred 4-2-3-1 as The Celts chased the game. Lennon was rightly pleased with his side’s performance last night in a game that had many hallmarks of a cup upset: torrential rain, a dodgy pitch and conceding a scrappy opener that your makeshift defence fails to deal with but The Bhoys did well to steady themselves and bring home a good lead.

These Celtic fans expect big things from Johnston and if he keeps delivering performances like he did last night their confidence will soon be justified.
