Former Liverpool midfielder Mohamed Sissoko has spoken of his “shock” as he didn’t realise the support he had from the Merseyside club’s fans during his time at Anfield.
The Malian midfielder, who is currently a free agent, was reduced to tears live on French television after watching messages of support from fans.
Sissoko spent two and a half seasons at Anfield after a £10.8m move from Valencia in 2005 and won the FA Cup and Charity Shield during his stay. However, he picked up a serious eye injury against Benfica in the Champions League which hampered his progression in Rafael Benitez’s team.
“I was very shocked because I didn’t know how much love the Liverpool supporters had for me.” ????

The 34-year-old was working as a pundit for RMC Sport and was forced to take a moment after becoming very emotional listening to comments from Liverpool fans.
During an interview with the club’s official website, he said he was “so happy” and “so proud“. He was unaware of the love that he had from the Kop faithful.
Fans reiterated their support for the former Reds’ midfielder, with one fan saying that he “loved Momo” and that never wanted a shot on goal to go in as badly as his effort that struck the crossbar against Barcelona in the Champions League.

My fondest memories include that challenge on Ballack in the community shield (and generally dominating that game), his first goal Vs Sunderland and his shot Vs Barca which hit the bar from miles out.
