Scottish League Two side Elgin hammered an Aberdeen XI side 8-1 as part of the club’s 125th-anniversary celebrations and it’s safe to say Aberdeen fans are far from happy with their young side.
The side was largely players from their Development Squad but did feature some familiar faces in the shape of Tomas Cerny, Bruce Anderson and Frank Ross. While it could be considered a youth side against Elgin’s first-team it doesn’t make for great reading for Aberdeen fans who would’ve liked to have seen their youngsters put up a bit of a fight.

Aberdeen fans haven’t taken it lightly on their side- even though everyone bar Cerny was a youngster and only Ross and Anderson have had any sort of impact on the first team- believing that an 8-1 defeat isn’t acceptable for any Aberdeen side against lower league opposition. Manager Derek McInnes would’ve been hoping to see some encouraging displays from his youngsters with the aim of integrating them into a club who regularly bring through academy graduates into the first team yet you wonder how much of the starting eleven will be in his plans next season after this demoralising result.
These Aberdeen fans weren’t best pleased with the barrage of goals their young team conceded last night.
Even with a reserve team that is not acceptable.
Whoever was in charge has brought a complete embarrassment on AFC.
Even the U11’s could have done better.

Reserve / Development team, whatever, irrespective if it’s a friendly, that’s an utterly embarrassing shafting.

I know anniversary games and such are not too important to you but putting a team of also ran’s out against the guys who’s anniversary it is??
You have to respect the fact that you were asked and put forward a team that gives respect.
AFC you really underdid yourselves this time.— SheltieDon (@SheltieDon) July 4, 2019

Well, that’s not good. Doesn’t matter because we’re better than we used to be, so it’s all steam ahead.
