Tottenham smashed their transfer record to sign Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon earlier this summer.
The French international midfielder cost Spurs £53.8m – and arrives with a lot of potential and excitement around what he can do.
Ndombele is seen by many to be the perfect replacement for Moussa Dembele and from his performances for Lyon in the Champions League – Spurs may well have picked up a gem.
Ndombele turned down other clubs to join Mauricio Pochettino’s side – and he is the midfielder they have missed since Dembele’s peak years.
First of all, Ndombele is a superb dribbler – using his immense body strength and close control to maneuver the ball out of tight spaces and drive his side forward. This can be seen in his average of 5.86 dribbles per game.
The former Lyon man is also very quick, particularly on the ball, and this could prove to be vital for Tottenham in a lot of games.
He is also better at progressive passing than Dembele the Belgian often kept the game very simple and was brilliant at keeping possession – but Ndombele is happy to play the ball forward.
He showed what he could do in the pre-season friendly against Juventus – when he intercepted a cross-field ball and threaded a beautiful pass through to Lucas Moura, who finished with aplomb.
This performance got a lot of Spurs fans very excited by their new midfielder.
Last season Ndombele scored three goals and provided eight assists and if he settles quickly, he could be a brilliant player for Spurs – and he has the potential to take them onto the next level.
