Alfredo Morelos has fuelled rumours of his exit from Rangers by sharing a social media post, according to the Scottish Sun.
What’s the story?
Morelos has been linked with moves away from Rangers throughout the summer and the Colombian has added to those rumours by sharing a tweet linking him with a move from Ibrox to Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
Steven Gerrard has done little to quell rumours of the 23-year-old’s exit by stating that he’s available for a ‘big offer’ and with Morelos looking like he’s touting himself with a move away it looks like the wheels are in motion for a deal involving the striker.
A crucial period in Morelos’ career
Alfie Mo, as he’s dubbed affectionately by the Rangers faithful, is coming off the back of a topsy-turvy season at Ibrox, scoring 30 goals across all competitions but his disciplinary record was poor. Morelos was in fine form in front of goal but struggled to keep a lid on his temper as he received 5 red cards (two of which were rescinded upon appeal) and a further 16 yellow cards in his 48 appearances last term.
The coming season could be vital for the 23-year-old wherever he’s playing his football. He’s still young enough that if he gets to grips with his disciplinary issues that he can chalk previous indiscretions up as the naivety of youth as opposed to being saddled with a ‘hothead’ tag throughout his career if it continues.
Morelos will also want to reaffirm his status as a goalscorer next season. Scoring 30 goals last season was a good achievement but only two of them came in the Europa League group stages and he failed to score entirely against Celtic, the two biggest tests Morelos has faced as a Rangers player so far.
A move to Crystal Palace might be a season too early for a player who could do with smoothing his edges before making a leap to the Premier League promised land.
