Newcastle United haven’t had the start to the season they would have wanted.

The Magpies have lost both of their opening games, and despite signing a £40m striker this summer they’ve scored just one goal – a 93rd-minute consolation strike by Jonjo Shelvey against Norwich.

However, offensive reinforcements could be on their way as Newcastle’s latest Instagram post shows that one of their summer signings could be ready to make an impact

Indeed, it may soon be time for the re-debut of Andy Carroll.

The giant striker hasn’t appeared for the Tyneside club since 2011 before his ill-fated £35m move to Liverpool.

Since he left St James’ Park his career has been a rollercoaster. He’s struggled for fitness, so his appearances in the top-flight have been very limited. However, when he has appeared he’s shown glimpses of the brilliance that saw Liverpool pay all that money for him eight years ago.

His hat-trick against Arsenal will live long in the memories of West Ham supporters, and if he can return to that type of form at Newcastle he’ll be a vital component for Steve Bruce’s side.

The return of Carroll should excite a number of United supporters and judging by the club’s latest Instagram post it may not be too far off.
