Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk and former Reds player Ragnar Klavan were embracing each other after the Netherlands’ 4-0 victory against Estonia on Monday.

The two defenders, who formed a defensive partnership at stages during the 2017/18 season, exchanged shirts and hugged in the tunnel after the final whistle following their Euro 2020 qualifier in Tallinn.

Reds’ midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum found himself on the scoresheet during Oranje’s rout at A. Le Coq Arena.

The Netherlands national team posted a video on Twitter (via @OnsOranje) showing the two team captains laughing and joking together as the international break drew to a close.

Liverpool supporters responded by showing their appreciation to van Dijk and Klavan both taking time out for each other. One fan said that they were “legends of the beautiful game“. Another fan expressed his sadness that Klavan did not pick up a Champions League winners medal.

The Estonian skipper left the club to join Italian side Cagliari after losing the Champions League Final 3-1 to Real Madrid in Kyiv.
