Leeds United’s Raphinha could now see his move to Barcelona falter, with other Premier League clubs circling.

What’s the word?

That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that Barcelona seem to be unable to find the funds for the forward.

That leaves Arsenal and Tottenham as the likely destination for the Brazilian, who are now both heavily interested.

Chelsea too hold a slight interest, but it appears the main battle for this trickster will be in North London.

Supporters will be devastated

Raphinha has been a huge favourite on Elland Road and played a huge part in helping the Whites to avoid the drop last season.

His 11 league goals, including one in the all-important final day of the season win at Brentford, were integral to their survival bid.

However, the 25-year-old had always seemed destined to leave Leeds, with Barcelona his expected destination for some time.

It would’ve been hard to see him go at all, but to now potentially lose him to another Premier League club, and have to face him again, will be particularly devastating for his supporters.

Not only will his goals be missed in Yorkshire, but his showmanship and natural flair is what really made him stand out. All of this was underpinned by a solid defensive mindset, outlined in his 1.82 blocks and 1.67 tackles per 90.

His willingness to do the dirty work made him unique, with the remarkable skillset he possesses.

Raphinha clearly made an impression on his teammates too, with Daniel James labelling him a “magician” who was fully deserving of his Brazil call-up.

In his absence, players like James will have to step up and fill the huge void that his exit will leave.

Other than Jack Harrison, no other Leeds player came close to scoring as many as him in the league, with the next best mustering just six league goals.

To see the Brazilian return to Elland Road playing in another team’s shirt will be particularly heart-breaking, however, the club does owe the player a debt of gratitude for his performances last season.

It is just a shame that Barcelona could not front the money so that he would not have to be seen again in the Premier League.

In other news, Sold for peanuts, now a PL winner: Leeds had a huge howler with 84-cap “inspiration”.
