Leeds United fans on Twitter were seemingly very impressed by Alfie McCalmont after he made his competitive debut on Tuesday evening against Salford City.

The youngster had previously appeared in the Whites’ pre-season friendly against York City, but this is the first time he has played in a competitive first-team match.

It was a rather routine win for the Whites as they brushed Salford aside 3-0 with goals from Eddie Nketiah, Mateusz Klich and Gaetano Berardi.

The Yorkshire outfit took this cup game as an opportunity to utilise some of their young talents as Leif Davis, Jack Clarke and Jamie Shackleton all made their first appearances of this new season.

McCalmont replaced Clarke in the 70th minute when the game was all but won, but that didn’t stop him from leaving an impression on many supporters.

After the game, the teenager took to Twitter to express how proud he felt on his debut and fans couldn’t stop waxing lyrical about him in the replies.

Large sections of the fanbase liked what they saw from the 18-year-old on his debut. One Twitter user stated that he played with calmness and authority, while another simply called him fantastic.

His debut performance was enough to convince some fans that he has a bright future at Elland Road.

Once again, his calmness on the ball was praised as some supporters tipped him to go on to do great things.

He even caught the attention of a former pro. Ex-Leeds striker Noel Whelan was quick to congratulate him on making his debut while praising his performance.
