Leeds United fans on Twitter are fuming with 32Red after it was revealed they have signed a new sponsorship deal with Derby County in order to fund the signing of Wayne Rooney.

It was announced on Tuesday that the former England captain would be joining the Rams as a player-coach. It was also revealed that he will wear the number 32 shirt whilst playing for the Rams.

It has been reported that this is a marketing ploy from gambling company 32Red who are Derby’s main shirt sponsors.

The Sun report that the sponsorship deal they have agreed will fund the £90,000 a week wages Rooney is commanding.

32Red also act as Leeds’ main shirt sponsors, so, of course, the preferential treatment that Derby have received from the company hasn’t gone down well with supporters.

With the Yorkshire club struggling with FFP issues they would love nothing more than a decent cash injection from one of their sponsors, but instead, 32Red have opted to help Derby.

This left several supporters far from happy.

Other members of the fanbase have been calling for 32Red to be removed as the club’s shirt sponsor due to the fact they are aiding their rivals.

Some fans would be willing to forgive 32Red on the grounds that they fund the signing of a marquee player. One suggested that they pay for Ryan Kent’s wages, while another supporter was a bit more ambitious stating that he wanted Lionel Messi.
