The appointment of Brazilian Edu Gaspar as Arsenal’s new technical director was always going to draw links to his home nation – wasn’t it? After being linked with Copa America Golden Boot winner Everton Soares, the Europa League runners-up have now been linked to Player of the Tournament Dani Alves who is without a club following his release from Paris Saint-Germain. Many supporters at the Emirates would love to see the veteran make the move to North London.

Alves won the 40th trophy of his career after starring in Brazil’s 3-1 victory over Peru in the Copa America final becoming the most-decorated footballer of all time. The 36-year-old is out of contract after his two-year stay in France’s capital came to an end this season. It’s not the first time that the Brazilian has been linked to the Premier League after he very nearly joined Manchester City before opting for PSG in 2017 – some reports suggest Pep Guardiola’s side are again in for Alves this summer.

With just a reported £45m at manager Unai Emery’s disposal, a move for the free agent could make a lot of sense with just the agreement of a hefty weekly salary needing to be ironed out. Alves has won the Champions League three times with Barcelona as well as numerous domestic titles in Catalonia as well as in Italy with Juventus and most recently in France.

Arsenal’s summer activity so far has seemed to heavily centre around defensive improvements with recent bids for Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney rejected and a move for French defender William Saliba looking more-and-more out of reach. Emery is sweating on the fitness of regular first-choice right-back Hector Bellerin ahead of the new season whilst his back-up Stephan Lichtsteiner was released from the club this summer resulting in many fans wanting to see Alves in a red shirt this season.
