Aston Villa and Kalvin Phillips. The most tedious transfer saga in the Midlands, if not the country.

Back in June, Villa reportedly ended their interest in the midfielder after Leeds United demanded £30m but it appears manager Dean Smith has tried his luck again – with a bid of half that figure.

According to Pete O’Rourke, Villa have come back in for Phillips with a £15m offer which has left many fans at Villa Park discussing the move.

The club have already signed 12 new players this summer, taking their spending well past the £120m mark. Phillips has been on Smith’s radar all summer after being one of the most impressive players in the whole of the Championship last term.

Fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the potential deal igniting again.

One supporter sarcastically said “yes, because what we’re screaming for at the minute is another midfielder.” Whilst another hoped it wouldn’t be because they are losing John McGinn less than a week before the transfer window closes.

Others called the news “boring” with one member of the Villa Park crowd saying no thanks to Phillips as they already have four quality players who can play his position.
