“It’s an awful article” – A lot of Gers supporters are not happy with a story in The Herald about Steven Gerrard’s decision not to include Filip Helander in his Europa League squad – for the two matches against Legia Warsaw.
Gerrard did not include Helander as he seeks to build the Swede’s match fitness – in an attempt to bring him up to speed with the rigours of the SPFL.
The 26-year-old was involved in Rangers’ 3-0 win over East Fife in the Betfred Cup, and he was impressive, but Gerrard does not want to disrupt his settled centre-back partnership of Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic.
These Gers fans are fuming at the Herald’s story.
See the best of the reaction below.
Why would he be criticised?
He signed a four year deal.
We’re 3 domestic games into the season.
He’s still behind the rest of the squad for fitness and match sharpness. https://t.co/66RlBCHFZF

More paper garbage he is slightly behind on fitness

They want to desperately criticise him. Hoping we fail

And I bet he starts against st Mirren. What don’t they understand about it being a squad game?

Many Rangers supporters believe that the media want them to fail and are looking for any excuse to criticise Gerrard and his side.
It’s an awful article. From the mind of someone who clearly doesn’t understand the importance of a settled pairing at centre half.

Not up to speed yet, so correct decision IMO.
Katic and goldson are playing great together and compliment each other and look solid— alan hart (@1961Hart) August 20, 2019
Pathetic journalism trying to cause disruption. Couldn’t write about the other 3 excellent centre backs that have been selected for the squad?

Other Gers fans point out the fact Helander is not match fit yet, and there is no need to break up Goldson and Katic’s partnership.
