One of last season’s stars is about to return to Aston Villa – much to the delight of many supporters at Villa Park. Central defender Tyrone Mings will rejoin the club in a £20m deal from AFC Bournemouth as the Premier League newcomers prepare for life back in England’s top-flight.

Mings made 18 appearances for The Villans, proving to be a vital part of their playoff run which culminated in a 2-1 victory over Derby County in the final – putting an end to their three-year wait for Premier League football. The 26-year-old originally joined the club on deadline day of the January transfer window after he was unable to break into Eddie Howe’s side.

The former Ipswich Town man was one of Bournemouth’s first signings upon promotion to the Premier League in 2015, signing for a fee of £8m. Though, he has struggled to make much of an impact on the south coast playing just 23 matches in four years.

Mings becomes Dean Smith’s sixth summer arrival following the signings of Matt Targett, Wesley Moraes, Anwar El Ghazi, Kortney Hause and Jota. The centre-back’s fee is just £2m shy of the club-record £22m which was broken this off-season through the arrival of Moraes.

Below are just a number of fans’ thoughts about the permanent signing of last season’s loan star Tyrone Mings:
