Nottingham Forest announced their squad numbers for the upcoming season on Friday morning, and their fans had some issues that they wanted to raise on social media.

Squad number releases can be an indication of which players will feature heavily in the upcoming campaign, and with a new manager in charge, it was sure to be an intriguing announcement.

Not much has changed in Forest’s squad though. Matty Cash has taken the number 11 from Ben Osborn after he moved to Sheffield United, Joe Worrall has taken the number four shirt, and Alex Milosevic is the new number six.

Apart from those changes, it’s pretty much the same story as last season with the new signings taking some of the previously unassigned numbers.

However, this didn’t stop fans from voicing their concerns around this announcement.

One big issue that a number of supporters had was the size of their squad. The East Midlands outfit have given 38 players a squad number this term, and fans aren’t happy with how the squad is looking.

One supporter joked that in the future the Reds may soon have to give out a triple-digit squad number, while another stated that at least 10 of the players are deadwood.

Another issue that the fanbase have raised is the fact that Daryl Murphy is still their number nine.

Historically the number nine shirt belongs to the first-choice striker, and with the Irishman being told he can leave the club this summer it makes no sense for him to be given the shirt number for the upcoming season.
