Ayoze Perez has barely been a Leicester City player for two weeks and he’s already sending shockwaves through The Foxes’ fanbase. The 25-year-old netted the only goal in their opening pre-season friendly win against League One side Scunthorpe United last night.
Their new summer signing particularly caught the eye in the first-half – testing the goalkeeper in the early stages on more than one occasion, before breaking the deadlock with a fine slotted finish after Ricardo Pereira’s cut-back pass in the 35th minute.
Perez joined Leicester in a £30m move from fellow Premier League outfit Newcastle United earlier this month ending a five-year spell at St James’ Park. Last season, he finished as the club’s top-scorer with 12 goals in 37 appearances.
Many fans flocked to Twitter to share their thoughts on their star man’s debut performance with one supporter claiming his instinctive positional play was impressive and that he had already formed a good link with fellow summer signing Youri Tielemans.
Others described his showing as immense and brilliant. Perez even left one member of the City fanbase surprised, saying he exceeded expectations.
If last night’s reaction is anything to go by then many at the King Power Stadium will love watching the Spaniard in the Premier League next season.

Perez impressive. Instinctive positional play, linking up very well with Tielemans, also Vardy. Close with his first efforts, but expertly dispatched his third. Deserving lead from a fluid opening half of play, from what seems to contain most of #LCFC’s starting XI. #LeiScu

Perez has exceeded my expectations. Still think we need another winger brought in, but it’s not the end of the world if we don’t. Him and Ricardo look like they’ve been linking up for years. #LCFC
