Aston Villa could have an interesting dilemma up front this season should reports linking them to Brentford star striker Neal Maupay come true. The potential acquisition of the 28-goal forward on top of their club-record £22m signing Wesley Moraes would leave many Villa fans salivating over the wealth of attacking threat they could possess in the Premier League next term.

If manager Dean Smith were to add another striker to the squad then it would certainly be one way to ensure that the loss of loan star Tammy Abraham isn’t felt as hard as it could be after the Chelsea ace bagged 26 goals in 40 appearances for the West Midlands giants last season.

Maupay would continue the theme of familiarity for the Villa boss after re-signing two of last season’s top-performing loan players in Tyrone Mings and Kortney Hause as well as raiding two of his former Brentford stars, Jota and Ezri Konsa. The 22-year-old Frenchman could be available for £20m and was recently left out of Brentford’s pre-season friendly with Dynamo Kiev due to the uncertainty of his future.

Many supporters would love to see Maupay make the switch to Villa Park but that hasn’t stopped them debating who would start the opening game against Tottenham – club-record Moraes or the proven-scorer Maupay.
