Everton have been struggling to find forward fluidity this season, with detrimental injuries and floundering summer signings playing a part in the flagging season.

Indeed, Neal Maupay, purchased from South Coast outfit Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer for £15m, has failed to ignite a golden touch, and star talisman Dominic Calvert-Lewin is seemingly beset by perpetual injury issues.

Which opens the door to the Finch Farm academy, which has bred some notable figures across recent years; Calvert-Lewin and Anthony Gordon to name two.

Tom Cannon is the latest young ace to enter the first-team fray, having made his debut for the club at senior level during the lacklustre Carabao Cup defeat away to AFC Bournemouth this week.

Merely several days later, the forward reaffirmed his calls for a spot in Lampard’s plans with an emphatic brace against Paris Saint-Germain for the under-21’s.

The 19-year-old has cut a prolific shadow indeed for Everton’s youth squads, scoring 48 goals and providing 14 assists across 95 appearances for the club’s under-21 and under-18 outfits.

And now he might finally be offered the stage for Lampard’s team, with his two goals against PSG the perfect way to demonstrate his worth; coming straight after his senior debut, the showing will certainly linger in his manager’s mind as he attempts to figure out the best way to kickstart his offensive ranks.

Indeed, Everton have been somewhat lacking in attack this term, with recent rumours linking the club to the likes of Cody Gakpo and Jonathan David to combat the often blunt attacking instrument they wield.

Should the club prove unsuccessful in finding a suitable, and achievable, forward target this winter, the likes of Cannon may prove invaluable in offering assistance as the Toffees seek a respectable final league position, and possibly a cup run in the FA Cup.

And he has already earned plaudits for his stellar showings, with journalist Joe Thomas praising the player for “bullying defenders” during the clash against Manchester United under-21’s earlier this season.

Ultimately, Lampard will be wary of forcing a load onto the starlet at the maiden stage of his career, but will be intrigued to play witness to the Liverpudlian’s rise regardless.

Whilst his brace against PSG will not detract the Toffees from diving in for a forward addition this winter, he is certainly going the right way about rising up the pecking order and earning further first-team opportunities to impress on the big stage.
