Gavin Buckland has claimed on the All Together Now podcast that Everton’s season would have been different if Yerry Mina was fit, whilst he also believes that he could well be on his way out this summer transfer window…

The Toffees have been all over the place defensively this campaign. They have the fifth leakiest defence in the league, conceding 66 goals.

Frank Lampard’s side have not been helped by the absence of the Colombia international for large parts of the year. According to Transfermarkt, the 27-year-old has missed 25 games this season, first due to thigh problems, and then because of a hamstring injury.

This has caused the backline to be unstable, with seven players having featured at centre back for the Merseyside club. Out of the seven, Mina has the highest WhoScored rating with 6.69.

With this in mind, Buckland questions what could have if the former Barcelona defender was around more:

“I think we may have seen a slightly different campaign if Mina had been fit for most of the games, because defensively we’re a different team – and also the fact that it now looks as though he’s probably going to go during the summer – I think that’s a real shame.”

Our thoughts on Yerry Mina’s absence…

If Yerry Mina’s last game for Everton is when he had to go off injured against Leicester, then the £18m-ratedrock” will not leave on a high.

In the 18 minutes he was on the pitch, the 6 foot 5 stopper made an error which led to the Foxes’ goal, and received the lowest WhoScored rating out of everyone who played.

In addition, in his absence fellow centre backs Michael Keane and Mason Holgate have stepped up, most notably in the 3-2 win over Crystal Palace which ensured the Toffees stayed up, with Keane scoring and Holgate getting an assist.

When you factor in that the £120k-per-week ace has missed 48 games while he has been at Goodison Park, then Everton cannot afford to rely on Mina anymore.

AND in other news, Everton handed big transfer boost in pursuit of £71k-p/w “freak”…
