“It runs in our academy” – A lot of Tottenham Hotspur fans are reacting to the news their youth side was beaten 2-1 by Ipswich Town in the Leasing.com Trophy.
The competition, which was known as the Checkatrade Trophy, has not gone well for Spurs’ U23s – last season they did not get out of their group, and things have started badly for them this year as well.
Spurs held a half time lead thanks to a goal from Armando Shashoua, but just two minutes after the restart Ipswich pulled themselves level – courtesy of a goal from Jordan Roberts.
He grabbed his second of the evening just 20 minutes later, and Spurs could not respond meaning they started their Leasing.com Trophy campaign with a defeat.
See the best of the reaction below.
Full-time at Portman Road and it's ended 2-1 to @IpswichTown in our @LeasingcomTrphy opener. It was a spirited display from the team and we missed a golden chance to level in the final minute. Plenty of positives here though. #COYS

These Spurs fans can’t believe the youth team is throwing away leads like the senior team.
