There were many standout performers amongst the Liverpool squad last night after they thrashed League One-bound Tranmere Rovers 6-0 – Rhian Brewster netted two and assisted another in the first half. Nathaniel Clyne, Curtis Jones, Bobby Duncan and Divock Origi were all too on the scoresheet. However, the showing from Harry Wilson left many fans wondering if the 22-year-old can finally break through into the senior setup.
Wilson featured in the much-stronger first-half eleven which also saw the returns of Joe Gomez, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana from injury-barren seasons. The former Derby County loan star impressed enough for some fans to suggest he should be starting ahead of Lallana next season.
The winger has enjoyed two successful loan spells whilst under contract at Liverpool – first at Hull City he scored seven and assisted four in a short 14-game spell before joining fellow Championship side Derby County on a season-long loan last term. It was his breakthrough year in the men’s game, scoring 18 goals and assisting six in 49 appearances.

Harry Wilson is looking really good tonight @LFC

Wilson impressed dropping into little spaces and playing some smart passes. There’s a lot more to his game than spectacular goals and you could see signs of his development at Derby. Needs & deserves an opportunity, I think he’s got a lot to offer us this season. #LFC

Liverpool looked sharp in their opening pre-season hit-out against Tranmere. Ox and Lallana switched on after a difficult season and Brewster, Wilson and Kent had a great understanding up front. Gomez strong at the back and Larouci showing his potential at left-back #LFCPreSeason

Everyone's talking about Brewster but I liked Wilson's and Kent's performances more.
