A 16-strong collective of both Liverpool first-teamers and youth prospects took the field at Melwood on Saturday as The Reds began their preparations for the 2019/20 Premier League campaign – amongst them was young striker Rhian Brewster who many Liverpool fans believe could have a breakthrough year.
The 19-year-old has experienced the drastic highs and lows that a footballing career can take already in his short career to date. He was a member of England’s under-17 World Cup winning squad in 2017, finishing as the competition’s top goalscorer with eight goals. Though, he has faced serious time out through injury which required two operations and a lot of rehabilitation.
Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp has been reluctant to send Brewster on loan in the past and has hinted at the starlet’s potential impact this season. The 52-year old said: “Rhian the same [as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain]; he is a really big talent. We’re really looking forward to seeing him in training and all that stuff. It will be an important role for us, we planned an important role for him. So, new player.”

There’s been a fair bit of deserved questioning of this tweet. However, the timing of this potential breakthrough for Brewster is so exciting. Aside from the long-standing excitement about him amongst both the FA & the club, it feels a great time for the lad to come through

Saying to my mate yesterday; the fact that he’s mates with the lads at the club, Klopp likes him, he hasn’t gone off on loan, he’s getting praise from training…he must have something. Excited to see it this season.

He’s a Raw Talent, don’t expect him to take the league by storm so early, he’s also very Injury Prone, if he does get a good run of Games he could be a real player.

I think Brewster could well turn out to be brilliant from what I have seen of him, but I can remember watching Adam Morgan and, Adam Hammil both rip it up for our youth teams and thinking they would make it here, and both ended up lower league players .

I'm really thrilled about Brewster coming into the first team squad next season. Personally find him more exciting than Foden, CHO and Sancho. Looking forward to watching him for LFC.
