Gareth Southgate’s England squad announcement has been met with a range of emotions from the fanbase, but some fans are ridiculing the suggestion that Kalvin Phillips of Leeds United was unlucky to miss out on the squad.
Phillips, 23, was in impressive form for Leeds in their Championship campaign for 2018/19, leading to the central defensive midfielder being linked with a move to Aston Villa. But some fans are laughing at the suggestion that Phillips’ form warranted a call-up to the England seniors after having had no experience of Premier League football.
The midfielder has made 133 appearances for Leeds, but it is arguable that a call-up to the seniors is a big step too soon for Phillips, and these fans were not approving of the idea that he had been unlucky to miss out.
Check out some of the best reactions to Phillip’s ‘unlucky’ omission from the England squad.

Why would Phillips be called up? Never even tested at the higher level.

Kalvin Phillips is mint but England standard? Jack Colback was closer to being selected…

Phillips is 100% suited to the England style of play but doesn’t conform. Mason Mount is ‘known’ apparently. Selfishly pleased but Phillips is class in every respect.
