“He was a tremendous servant,” “You can’t fault his commitment” – A lot of Sunderland fans are praising Lee Cattermole after it was announced that he would be leaving the club.
Cattermole, 31, has spent ten years on Wearside and in that time racked up 262 appearances and made himself a hero to a lot of Black Cats fans.
The former Wigan man, who was born in Stockton, joined Sunderland in 2009 and quickly established himself as a hard-tackling defensive midfielder who was fully committed to Sunderland.
Over the ten years Cattermole spent at Sunderland, particular moments endeared him to a lot of the Sunderland faithful – one such moment was when he snapped, former Black Cats, player Jack Colback in the Tyne-Wear Derby.
Cattermole’s derby record was outstanding as Sunderland won six during his time at the club.
Of course, Cattermole also suffered back-to-back relegation’s with Sunderland, but he stayed to try and get them promoted and for that Cattermole will always have a place in the hearts of a lot of Sunderland fans for at least trying.
