Liverpool’s latest league victory saw Jurgen Klopp’s side prevail 2-1 winners over Chelsea, but the momentum and form that the Reds are gaining is indicative of a side who are set win the 2019/20 Premier League title.
Klopp’s side were assured in their performance at Stamford Bridge despite fears of a comeback when Ngolo Kante darted through the Liverpool defence, as goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino ensured the club retained their 100% winning start in the league.
Yet a summer of minimal transition for the Reds has clearly vastly benefitted the squad. Despite a 2-0 defeat to Napoli in their opening Champions League tie, there can be no doubting that Liverpool are exhibiting form that aligns to a title-winning team.
There are unquestionable defensive issues that the injury to goalkeeper Alisson has brought about, but Mohamed Salah and Saido Mane have continued their outstanding goalscoring form into the current campaign, with Firmino continuing to play a vital yet heavily understated role in the club’s frontline.
Despite failing to win their first-ever Premier League title, Liverpool did come away from the 2018/19 campaign with their first silverware of the Klopp era, prevailing in the 2019 Champions League. It is looking like this achievement, the club’s sixth European trophy, is serving as a catalyst for the squad’s belief that they are capable of dethroning Manchester City and adding another marquee trophy to the club’s cabinet.
Klopp’s side will face increasingly difficult tests as the season progresses, both at Anfield and away from home, but for now there can be no doubting that the club are not only in serious contention for the Premier League title, but they are set to win the league in 2019/20.
